HIGH SCHOOL
SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

PROGRAM DATES: July 13th - August 2nd, 2008

(Dates are tentative. It is possible the program will be extended to 4 weeks and will run through August 9, 2008).            


The Nanobiotechnology Center is a National Science Foundation funded Science and Technology Center. Research at the center seeks to address biological problems by applying the tools and tecniques used in the microelectronics industry. Research spans all disciplines, from chemistry to biology to engineering and physics.

The High School Student Internship Program at Cornell University will immerse rising high school juniors and seniors in a 4-week nanobiotechnology experience. You will actively participate in designing and fabricating devices. As part of this experience, you will gain skills and understanding in the new field of nanobiotechnology. You will work as a team with other high school and college students on your projects.

In addition, evening and weekend social activities (picnics, swimming, hiking) will get you acquainted with the beautiful Ithaca gorges, lakes, and many eclectic restaurants.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: MARCH 3, 2008
Early Submission Encouraged
Students must still be in high school in the fall of 2008 to apply

ACCEPTANCE NOTIFICATION: APRIL 11, 2008

Accepted participants will receive:

  • Room and Board
  • Travel Expenses up to $500

APPLICATION FOR SUMMER 2008 CLOSED. Please check in early 2009 for Summer 2009.

In addition to the on-line application above, please write a Letter of Intent stating why you are interested in the High School Internship Program. Please include goals for your participation and an explanation of what you would like to learn through the experience. Please mail this brief letter to the following address:
