Education at the NBTC

Formerly known as 'Main Street Science', Education at NBTC is a learning collaboratorium that serves the needs of the K-12 community and advances the science literacy of the general public through the development of hands-on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) activities. The physical space and the organization of this learning collaboratorium are designed to foster the interactions between scientists (faculty, staff and students), teachers and K-12 students. Integral to the learning collaboratorium is a resident staff skilled in design and fabrication and the facilities to effectively create the components for hands-on learning activities. The focus of scientific efforts at Main Street Science are nanoscience, but we take a broad view of the field working off of the foundation that we have established over the past three years in understanding the knowledge base of students at various grade levels. The goals of the learning collaboratorium are:

  • To establish an environment where creative people can collaborate.
  • To create hands-on STEM activities to stimulate student interest in science, technology, engineering and math.
  • To pilot these activities with kids and adults.
  • To share these activities with our partners in the community.
Main Street Science has moved to a new location on the Cornell Campus: 350 Duffield Hall.
